Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has presented a major update to the network's technological direction, replacing the old six-phase development roadmap with a new architectural blueprint called the Strawmap. The new roadmap divides Ethereum's evolution into three layers: consensus, data, and execution. It also puts a stronger emphasis on quantum resistance, user privacy, AI-powered verification, and a leaner protocol design.

A New Structure for Ethereum's Future

The original roadmap was organized around a series of named phases, including the Merge, the Surge, the Scourge, the Verge, the Purge, and the Splurge. The Merge marked Ethereum's transition to proof-of-stake, while the Surge was designed to scale the network through rollups and sharding.
